Integration with Lions Clubs International and LCIF

Lions Club Hope for Humanity is fully integrated into the Lions Clubs International (LCI) framework. Being a chartered club of LCI means that Hope for Humanity adheres to the international association’s guidelines, participates in its programs, and contributes to its global goals. This integration is evident in several ways:

    • Alignment with LCI Mission: The club’s activities echo LCI’s mission “to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service” . By focusing on diabetes, vision, hunger, environment, and childhood cancer, the club directly supports the priority causes LCI has identified worldwide. The club also fosters international understanding and peace – for instance, by joining global Lions observances (like Lions World Diabetes Day or Earth Day initiatives). In essence, Hope for Humanity Lions function as a local agent of Lions Clubs International’s humanitarian agenda.
    • District and Multiple District Involvement: As part of District U-1, the club collaborates with other Montreal-area Lions clubs on regional service projects and attends district conventions or meetings. These interactions integrate the club into the larger Lions community, allowing members to learn from others and jointly serve broader needs. For example, club members have marched alongside fellow Lions in city-wide events like the Montréal St. Patrick’s Day Parade and have supported district-wide charity drives . Such involvement ensures the club’s efforts complement those of sister clubs, avoiding duplication and maximizing overall impact in Quebec.
    • Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF): The Lions Club Hope for Humanity also interfaces with the Lions Clubs International Foundation, which is LCI’s charitable arm. LCIF provides grants and funding for large-scale humanitarian projects and disaster relief undertaken by Lions. The club contributes to LCIF’s initiatives by fundraising and donating a portion of proceeds to the foundation. In the 2024-25 Lions year, for instance, District U-1 clubs (including Hope for Humanity) collectively aimed to raise US$31,000 for LCIF to support global grants . Clubs are encouraged to sponsor Melvin Jones Fellowships – a recognition for significant donations to LCIF – as a way to bolster the foundation . By participating in these efforts, the Hope for Humanity Lions help fund lifesaving programs around the world (such as LCIF’s childhood cancer treatment programs, vision clinics, disaster relief funds, etc.). Conversely, the club is also eligible to apply for LCIF grants in the future if it undertakes a major humanitarian project in Montreal that requires additional funding or disaster assistance. This two-way relationship with LCIF amplifies the club’s capacity to make a difference.
    • Training and Resources: Integration with LCI means the club’s members have access to a wealth of training, tools, and resources. Lions Clubs International offers leadership training, project planning guides, and an online platform (MyLion) for reporting service activities. Members of Hope for Humanity have likely undergone orientation about Lions history and ethics, and they use LCI’s branding (the famous Lions logo) and protocols in their events. The club also partakes in international programs like the Lions Youth Exchange or Peace Poster Contest as opportunities arise. All these connections ensure that even as a relatively new chapter, Lions Club Hope for Humanity benefits from 100+ years of Lions organizational knowledge and a support system spanning 200+ countries.
